COLLECTIONS OF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

The National Library of Namibia holds the most extensive collection of Namibiana, material published in, or about, Namibia. As part of the National Library & Information Services Act 2 of 2000, all Namibian publishers are obliged to provide 5 copies of every publication printed as legal deposit to the NLN.

The Reference and General Collections are open access for research and study. They are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and are acquired mostly through purchases.

The Namibiana Collection of material acquired by legal deposit is held in closed access and is not open for public browsing. Visitors must speak with Reference Desk staff who will obtain the item from the stacks. No borrowing is allowed and items must be used within the Library.
