OVERVIEW OF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

The National Library of Namibia supports education and research by providing all Namibians and Namibian libraries access to national and international information resources. Thus, the National Library will serve as the national centre for the collection, conservation and appreciation of Namibia's published national heritage and for a national reference collection.

The National Library of Namibia is a custodian of the nation’s key knowledge resources. The Library is mandated by the National Library & Information Services Act 4 of 2000 to collect and preserve published documents and make them available. We ensure that knowledge is not lost to posterity and that information is available for research.

The Library has the country’s largest collection of Namibian publications, including a valuable collection of Namibian newspapers, some dating back to early 1900’s; the complete statutes of Namibia as well as an array of electronic resources to cater for the diverse information needs of the Namibian population.
